Two Installations, Not One

Administratively joined is not the same thing as physically close. Hunter Army Airfield is in Savannah itself; Fort Stewart is inland, near Hinesville, per Wikipedia's entry on Hunter Army Airfield (opens in a new tab). The two posts run about an hour apart by car, per Google Maps directions (opens in a new tab) between the two installations; Rome2Rio's route estimate (opens in a new tab) puts the driving distance at just over 40 miles. Treat this as approximate guidance, not a measured commute time, and check current traffic for the exact route.

That distinction is worth confirming before anything else about this move. Which installation you're actually reporting to changes your real daily commute, which side of the metro is convenient day to day, and which of the club communities covered elsewhere on this site land inside a reasonable drive and which do not. A community that works well for a Hunter assignment can be a long, unpleasant commute from Fort Stewart, and the reverse holds just as often. Confirm your gaining unit's actual location, not just the garrison name on your orders, before you start looking at neighborhoods.
